Introduction: Style Tribes and Political Movements Emerge

In the years of the sixties through the seventies, society craved change in their lives. Specifically, people searched for a change in civil and women’s rights. A concern for the environment also arose. People were seeking changes in the availability of drinking water, nuclear waste, toxic waste clean-up and the ocean. All of these social events eventually lead to many fashion changes during this decade. Many people who study clothing and the relation of social changes have indeed stated that obvious changes in dress do occur when major social events are also taking place (Tortora, 2010). As I continue to research this time period, I will guide you through the social events that influenced during these years.
